Film Noir - "a style or genre of cinematographic film marked by a mood of pessimism, fatalism, and menace". Colored filters, spot grids and lots of heavy shadows were used to create moods, from the cool femme fatale, the panicked prairie homesteader, and the tough-as-nails private eye.
